Reception Admissions

To apply for a Reception place, you will need to apply online through the Local Authority (Islington).

More information about applying for places can be found on the London Borough of Islington website.

The Islington Primary School Admissions Booklet explains the admissions criteria for community schools (page 20). Within this you will also find the link to an online application form and further information on applying for a reception place.

Top tips

Visit schools - this is the best way to get a 'feel' for the school

You can meet a member of the leadership team, ask questions and see the school in action.

Think about what is right for your child – don’t rely on what others tell you, visit the school and experience it first-hand.

Talk to your child

Talk to your child – involve them as much as you can.

Think about the journey – how easy will it be to get to the school? Some schools may be further away but are easier to get to.

Advice

Ask the School Admissions team for advice – they can’t tell you which schools to apply for, but they can explain the admission criteria and check whether you would have got a place last year.

Apply on time

Making sure your primary school application is in on time is really important. Last year, only 40% of applicants who applied late were offered one of their preferred schools, compared to over 97% who applied on time. So, get your diaries out and make a note of these key dates...

12 January 2022: aim to make your application by this date just in case there are any problems with getting online or logging into the site.

15 January 2022: this is the legal deadline to submit your online application. It is also the deadline for social medical application.
