Welcome to Laycock Primary School
We are a friendly and welcoming school with a strong community spirit which reflects our inclusive ethos and belief that every child can thrive and achieve their goals in life.
I work alongside a fantastic, dedicated and creative team of professionals all of whom strive for the very best for every stakeholder in our school. We pride ourselves by putting the children first, ensuring our new initiatives support their learning, enjoyment and wellbeing and – like many Primary professionals - love to pretend we are big kids too!
We immerse every child in our creative curriculum to encourage curiosity and to inspire their future goals and aspirations in life. Our ethos of learning ensures our children learn from mistakes to overcome hurdles and build resilience. Being surrounded by a friendly and respectful environment invites our children to be courageous while feeling safe. As Head Teacher, I am committed to continuing to build on our curriculum and ensure that our ethos and values stay at the very heart of everything we do.
What makes us special?
Provision for Deaf Children
Our approach to teaching is auditory/oral. The children use spoken English to communicate and make maximum use of their hearing to access spoken language. All of our classes for Deaf children are sound proofed to minimise background noise while the children wear radio aids to enable them to hear the teachers more clearly.
We have designed our curriculum for the childrento be inspired, enthused, engaged and active - not only with the power of their learning, but the power of their life choices within our school, community and wider world. We aspire to revolutionise each subject within our curriculum to ensure our children gain cultural capital, a wide variety of exposure to happenings around the world and first-hand experience which is crucial to all learners. Our curriculum has been created based on the individuality of our local area, our community and the current world we live in. We will prepare our children to ask questions, hunt for answers and base decisions on their moral compass.
We have a stimulating and well-resourced setting and experienced staff who create a nurturing and highly engaging space for our Nursery and Reception children. We offer part time and full time places for 3 and 4 years olds. We also have breakfast and after school clubs for our Reception children.
P4Y After School Club
P4Y provide Laycocks after school clubs. The After School Club is open Monday to Friday between 3:30pm and 4.40pm, and the Teatime Club is open Monday to Friday between 3:30pm and 5.45pm. Information is available from the School office.
We offer excellent provision and support for all our children with Special Educational needs and Disabilities. Our SENCO works closely with families of SEND children to ensure they make excellent progress and our supported in the best way to reach their potential.
Our Friends of Laycock PTA run various fundraisers throughout the year. We also have various coffee mornings which run for parents to get involved in school life and plan our fundraisers for the school.
Deaf Provision and Inclusion
Laycock has an auditory oral approach which means we teach primarily through speaking and listening. We have Speech and Language therapists who work in school providing 1:1 sessions, whole group sessions, advice and language assessments for each deaf child.
