Laycock School is committed to making a positive difference to the wellbeing of our children and school community. We seek to create a school culture that celebrates similarity, difference and diversity and one in which all children and young people can see themselves represented and valued.
Laycock School and The Governing Body recognise that it is unlawful to take into account anyone’s gender, marital status, colour, race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, disability, religious beliefs, age, or sexual orientation. Full consideration has been given to this during the formulation of this policy as it is the governors’ aim that no-one at Laycock school should suffer discrimination, either directly or indirectly, or harassment on any of these grounds.
The school has a non-gendered uniform list, which allows parents and children to make choices based on personal preference, special educational need or religious reason.
We believe that the wearing of uniform:
- Creates a feeling of belonging and unity
- Promotes a sense of pride in the school
- Extends school behaviour expectations of each pupil beyond the school gates
- Supports children to be ambassadors for the school when on trips
- Is practical and distinctive
- Identifies the children with the school
- Does not create distractions in the class ( as fashion items might do)
- Makes children feel equal in terms of appearance
